Introduction

TL;DR: I hate misplacing my items so I designed this app to help users quickly locate and manage their compatible devices using Bluetooth, NFC, and QR pairing all from the convenience of their Smart Band 8.

I designed a minimal and efficient interface focused on quick device discovery, pairing, and control. This case study outlines how clear UX and lightweight interactions improve real-time connection and reduce friction in everyday use.

Challenge

Challenge

Challenge

The challenge was to design an intuitive pairing and device management experience for the Smart Band 8 for when I have no one to ask where my items mysteriously disappear.

Users (and myself) often struggle with locating or connecting their devices when in a hurry. Existing methods can feel buried, sluggish, or overly verbose leading to frustration, delays, or even lost accessories. My goal was to remove the guesswork and create a fluid interaction that feels instant, secure, and smart.

Pair, Track, and Protect

This smartwatch app was built to solve a common problem: managing and tracking essential devices on my wrist. I focused on designing screens that prioritized clarity, and proactive support. The design centers around three core features, instant device discovery and pairing, real time tracking with guided feedback, and notifications based on user behavior, all delivered through a compact and accessible interface. The goal was simple: allow users (myself) to find items that are easily misplaced.

Flow for Connecting New Devices

Creating a smooth onboarding experience is essential for the ease of use of this new feature. I focused on building a clear and familiar experience, for new users adding their devices to long-term device management. Users can quickly add new devices through Bluetooth or QR pairing, immediately access key details like battery life and tracking tools, and manage all connected items from one efficient dashboard.

Mi Fit App: Device Redesign

Screens on the mobile app had to be updated to include this new feature for users to change any settings not compatible with the small display of the Smart Band. New Device Settings is now the dashboard where all of these changed can be made. Users can view and edit any devices added, view a estimated location status for finding their device, and view a compact version of this dashboard in the app tile on the Smart Band

Final Concept

This project was all about making the small screen do big things. I wanted users to feel like they had full control—without digging through menus or second-guessing their actions. The result? A smooth, intuitive experience that feels accessible on the wrist and helps users and myself stay connected to the devices we rely on every day.
